Helplink
helping & Linking help

We believe in the capacity & the potential of each individual. Given the opportunity & support each can develop and attain one's happiness & fulfilment in life. With this motto Helplink attempts to build the community and develop the community through education and empowerment. It also gives a sense of community spirit and a sense of belonging e/to each one that approaches the Centre..Below are some of the highlights of our activities at a glimpse

HelpLink has been established for assisting, educating and empowering the vulnerable sections of the ethnic minority communities in and around the London borough of Ealing, for a dignified life and to integrate them into mainstream society as well as to reduce their dependency due to lack of basic English knowledge and promote their independence.

Helplink with support from few individuals and organisations has been able to initiate a many variety and innovative programmes as part of community building and for empowerment of the poor and marginalised community in and around Southall. Many milestones have been achieved in the last 2 years of its existence by the organisation and enabled the organisation to look at the possibility of approaching funding partners to carry out as well to increase our interventions in the life of the vulnerable poor and the marginalised

Helplink has started and grown on a steady note truly as the grass root community organization in the last 2 years. It has initiated and responded with innovative and relevant interventions and responses to the community’s present need. These activities and many more unrecorded are effective and needed at this stage to integrate the newly arrived or citizenship acquired community to integrate in to the mainstream society of London and be proudly part of the city’s rich traditions of equality and human dignity.
Community Help Desk

Signposting and helping Asian residents to local services and tackling their day to day problems. Though our regular hot desk services are for mainly Asian residents , almost all the communities residing here benefit from it. From helping the newly arrived immigrants whether it is student or work permit holder to the settled migrant communities, we have been able to assist them and guide them in to settling in to the life here in the form of helping with c.vs, career guidance, job search, GP and other services like National Insurance etc. For the settled migrants it is more of dealing with various issues affecting their mind, body and healthy and economic life. It concerns various benefits form filling, dealing with follow up and queries, dealing with financial issues like bank, credit and credit card related, and insurance related etc.. all because they have no one with English language reliable and trust worthy and above all free service, they come to us every day and out needing help, support and guidance. This aspect of helping and linking help has become the focal service provided by Helplink with the support of this project.

There has been many occasions of success for our clients due to our intervention whether it is over payment of Tax Credit or overdraft charges cancellation or appealing against benefit decisions. The community feels happy about a reliable place for guidance ,s support and assistance. Recent situations has also opened up extending our services to people at their places and centers.
This Desk serves all communities and attempts to help the clients in any situations. Helplink served more than 900 poor and the needy through this hot desk during the year.

ENGLISH CLASSES
Education for Empowerment

Our Basic English Classes are tuition classes for adults to make them independent and to be able to read, write, listen and speak in a simple way. This informal and personal oriented tuition enables them to learn more effectively and faster unlike those formal and free classes they get from the official centres.

Over the past few years there has been an increasing demand for such classes because of the improved confidence and self esteem of participants that results. Importantly, many attendees have subsequently gone on to find paid employment. We are proud to be able to teach more than 15 adult students from many countries especially from South Asia. Many have gone in to colleges, work places and better employment etc.

Computer Literacy

We are proud to be chosen and supported by UK Online Centre to be a partner in teaching people On Line Basics course so as to enable them improve their lives in all aspects.

The UK online centres network was set up by government in 1999 to provide public access to computers. Since then the role of UK online centres has developed to become more about inspiring people to get online, and supporting them to gain the skills and confidence they need to use the internet and to take advantage of online public services.

Technology is key in both social inclusion and community development.  The free computer training attepmts to  improve individual lives and strengthening local communities.
